Roger, excellent example of a "color match" between makers!

Galen & Roger, thanks for chiming in. Smile I was hoping to hear from you both on ZZ's "drizzle" marbles.

I think that this is another good illustration of how some marbles are so difficult to ID from a pic. In the first shot of this one..........the white looks just like it does on the hand-gathered transitional or Japanese pinch/crease pontil types (did I cover all the possible terms? Laughing)............but in the 2nd picture......it doesn't.........or is it just me. hehe

Galen or anyone else...........do you see any "Bloodie" possibility in the 2nd one or only WV swirl?

I don't see separate transparent brown - I think it is a WV drizzle. Both American Agates and Bloodies are difficult for starting collectors. I can remember back when I started that I thought I had dozens of oxbloods, but they were all just darker red. ...Roger

Here's a nice example of your point about glass colors. Left is (I think) Champion swirl, Right is a corkscrew. ...Roger

This thread is so fascinating and informative, hope there are more examples like this.

Sorry my pics were not too good, (taken with in-built flash to put here quick before losing the moment). Been gathering, sorting and looking at marbles for years but only started learning lately when I came across marble forums. I tend to post pics when I see something similar in a thread. Of the red/whites the left one is very opaque and very white. The right one is more opalescent with transparency, particularly in the red, it does have brown tint which I see as the red thinned out. For the last 2 years I have been keeping pics of the mibs before sorting them but cant spot either of these in a pic. Thank you, always appreciate comments from all.

This was the beginning and end of a great thread that any new collector should view so as to get past the stage of disillusionment and get on with fun collecting. I just had the perfect example of a similar experience in IDing from a photograph. I was emailed pics of a 5/8" marble(actually a group of them) in root beer glass that had slag and swirl appearance. I right off ID'd them as from the April 2005 Jabo run that Dave McCullough dumped because he felt they were too dark. Mike Johnson saved some from the outside bin and I had some right in front of me to use as examples. Well the chap who had emailed me sent me some of the marbles and lo and behold they were all from a Vacor run and I'm sure are clearly pictured at some site at Land of Marbles. It's a tough one to try and figure out what you have from one or two marble books; you really need a whole host of other factors to be able to make anything approaching a definitive identification.
