Okay, Steve! My husband would love that! Years ago when my parents sold the family home my husband asked my mom if he could have a naughty shot glass. It was actually a pottery cup more than a shot glass. It was the body of a woman with her arms back behind her and her chest pushed out. Of course there was no head, (that was where the liquid went). Unfortunately, my dad had thrown it away. I am always looking for that shot glass for him ... don't know what we'll do with it if I find it.
Anyway great salt and peppers!

Rory, that is an awesome collection! Quiet impressive and a great way to display them. I bet you will be happy they are out of reach when junior gets bigger! Smile

WOW!! Rory, your Shawnee collection, and ALL of the others is just amazing! Your Shawnee jars with decals and gold , most here don't realize are the CAC Guineas of the Cookie Jars/Pottery. Trully a wonderful collection,... however,.. I am glad that I am not the one to have to keep them dusted LOL!!

Thanks yall, I don't get to show these to anyone. Shawnee has really taken a hit in prices. The gold decal stuff brings good bucks still. The repos have taken their toll. I did sell a buch of Shawnee Miniatures earlier this year and I couldn't believe the money they brought. Of course I had 4 or 5 I have never even seen in books. Kris my dusting is really hurt'n right now with the baby and all. Usually dust a section at a time. Time a year rolls around you roll around to where you started.

The history of American made pottery so parallels Americam marble companies,. it's unreal...Family owned pottery companies such as Shawnee believed in producing quality pieces. The workers were also artists making and painting each piece , mostly by hand. Painters had to *sign out* a vial of gold paint to apply the gold accents. Rory has a wonderful collection of decaled gold painted Shawnee sets, some quite rare like the sailor boy (can't remember what he is called) didn't see many of those in that condition on the bay. Five years ago, Ebay was THEE place to shop for the better stuff. I particularly Like Shawnee because of the superior quality, pride that went into making them. The vibrant colors that last through the years. Hard times fell on these companies as well when foreign companies could produce pottery for much less. One by one, they closed shop....sound familiar?
and now,.... it's happening to our automotive industry Crying or Very sad

Kris he's called Jack Tar. Most folks call him Sailor Boy. He's a 1942 Jar. Shawnee had awesome quality pottery. As old as it is it rarely has much crazing.
