I know that the world of marble collecting has enough wierd names in play. But whenever I see one of this type of brick, I can't help but think of them as "lava-flow" bricks. ... Roger

Although I lean more towards transparent and translucent swirls this type of swirl movement is what I love about marbles and what makes them piercingly beautiful: fluid movement, viscous whirlpools.....

I find nothing wrong about the coining of a new identifying word for an old marble especially when it is right on. David Chamberlain

I can live with that. I've already managed to undercut my reputation on marble naming especially with that photo article on the Oct. 5-6, 2006 Jabo Run. There was no way I could not name with some of those beauties. David

Dang it, Roger! Now I'm going to be thinking "Lava Flow Bricks" from now on when I see 'em! (Very apt description though). Smile

Nice marble - that is actually a mix of copper ruby and oxblood - the copper ruby is quite fugitive and forms a thin layer above the oxblood in the melt.

Hi Brian, I didn't realize that there was identifiably different red glass used in making bricks - I mean I saw the variation, but I thought it was all just oxblood. Please tell us more. Which marble were you refering to having the copper ruby? Here's a brick - at least it's opaque, and I think its a brick, as it was found with other bricks, but the color is significantly different. Does it fall within the types of glass that you are aware of? ... Roger
