7/8" ..... Needless to say, a tough marble to photograph. I varied the intensity of the flashes in order to capture more detail. It's really cool when held in hand and backlit with a flashlight:-)
The brick is 13/16.

Sweet mibs & awesome pics, as usual Bill! Where's the pic of the ground pontil on the white one? That's important, to me anyway. Yes any of those single gather, single ground pontil marbles are German and are the first glass marbles mass-produced, there is no transition. What it is man.

It's solid white on the opposite pole and almost impossible to get an image worth posting. ...... especially using flashes:-) It does not have a ground pontil, although it does have a small melted pontil. I was drawn to it's simplicity of design without regard to it's origin:-) ....... especially the way it it appears when backlit. You guys can decide what it is:-) The person I traded a marble to for it had it with other Leighton examples. I really don't know squat about these types of marbles I just enjoy taking pics ..... Details, details ....lol:-) I should have stated my lack of knowledge in the original post, and explained why there is no image of the pontil. Maybe I will try to capture it next time I take some pics and add them. The one's I took came out terrible:-)

Here's an example of mine that appears somewhat similar - it even has traces of the red and clear that yours has - There's no distinctive cutoff that would lead me to classify it. ... Roger

It's amazing how you keep coming up with these museum quality marbles.
Does make one wonder what ever possessed them to go with white that day. Not necessarily a particularly desirable color in terms of 'flash.' Yet, decidedly a keeper! |
