Couple years back when the new runs got going I predicted white base single color marbles would come out. I said it sucked and hoped it would not happen but I guess the good old boys just couldn't help themselves. How they can keep saying they are not trying to mimic the vintage marbles is pretty much impossible now. Of course we will still hear denials but one look at this pic says it all. They should be ashamed. And I wonder if any involved trashed Scott Patrick or any of the other mimic producers. And how many involved with Jabo wil keep saying nothing is wrong with what some are doing. And if Dave did not want these produced, they wouldn't be.

It appears that the marbles were intentionally made to be confused with genuine antique examples. I guess every area of collecting has people whose only interest is in exploitation for their own financial gain. I just don't understand why there are so many collectors who seem to be embracing the whole new Jabo production, when all the while it is degrading marble collecting in general. ... Roger

Roger: I couldn't agree more. I bought some of the original Joker marbles for my granddaughter and haven't bought any since .Nor do I plan to. They're pretty, but so are some of the Chinese imports and the felt tip painted clays that I put in the same category. Art |

I'd wager it probably has happened. Don't get me wrong - it's no problem for the people who know what to look for... "this is obviously not even close to ravenswood's pallet" or "CAC colors are a touch richer" or "alley's 3rd flame tip (counting from the top) are generally more distinct"
Put one of those in a group of four other vintage marbles with similar patterns, give it the "lot found in my great uncles attic at a stranger's estate sale" and it will be trouble. |
