Thought that I'd share with you my thoughts as I embark on a typical marble ID journey. Smile Sometimes it's an impossible task, especially when it comes to patch marbles. But it's worth a shot, right?

Ok, first I look at the marbles in the context of the origin of their companions. The marbles in question are in the bottom left corner. All the rest of the marbles were Master. (of course, as we all know..........this could mean nothing.......but it's a starting point for me.)

Next, I pull out the unidentified ones. I've photographed this group below with the flash. The internal "action" in the transparent base is sometimes hard to capture.

Here they are without the flash under bright light.

The opaque white (very bright white) in these has visible 'swirling' throughout (couldn't really capture this in the photos). I've noticed that oftentimes, there's a visible "V" pattern in the base glass of 'known' Vitros . This was the first thing that led me to a possible Vitro ID. These blue marble below is most likely Vitro and has the same type of white glass. The red one on the left is from the "unidentified" group above. Notice the "V" pattern swirling in the colored transparent glass and the "V" shape of the 'patch' area in the blue one.

Now............"Talk amongst yourselves. Discuss." Laughing

I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on these.

EDIT: Rewrote the passage about the red and blue marbles (2 marbles in one picture) in an attempt to make it less convoluted. Don't know if it worked. hehe

Lizzy,

I think you are on the money with the ID. I am sure most of those are Anacortes mibs. They look like dollups of cream in sodas. The yellow one with the thin red line is a dead give away. Approximately one third of the yellows, have this thin red line. I have seen it referred to as chicken blood.

The green one is very light, compared to mine. I am going on memory only, as my Anacortes mibs are at the bottom of huge stacks of boxes. My greens almost run black, and the white turns yellowish/tan.

The only one I would guess about it the yellow red combo. It certainly looks Anacortes, but I am not sure I have seen that exact combo. It would not surprise me in the least to find it though.

The way the white floats in these mibs sorta brings to my mind the precursors to the classic Jabo U-shaped folds. These just seem more relaxed.

Thanks Randy! When I was thinking Vitro on these, I was thinking newer in the timeline............so Anacortes makes perfect sense.

Your description of how it looks like "dollups of cream in sodas." is perfect! That captures it exactly! Smile

When you say:

Just to clarify, are you talking about the ones in this thread?

Lizzy,

I was referring to the yellow red mib, the third marble, front row in your pics. I see from TX's post they come lighter. If my memory serves me, mine are very dark red. I did not look at mine, because It would entail moving hundreds of pounds around, and I have been in my work week.

I work in a large ER. We have been preparing to move to a new building for the last year. Our move date is September 9th. All vacations have been put on hold.

I have been very active in the plant world. Lately, on my days off, I have landscaped several of my neighbor's and coworker's yards. I grow exotics myself, but got inspired redo my own planting beds. It has been a lot of work. Consequently, I have had less marbling time.

Here is an image of my favorite, Vitro, "jewel tray".
Haven't ever found these wonderful, colorful, marbles other than the ones in this item.
Transparent red base with opaque white, green, blue and purple glass.
This tray and these marbles must be rare.

Thanks for your help, Randy! I totally understand how busy you've been with work and everything else. Smile I started my first "real" vegetable garden this year and have been really enjoying working in it. (except during the period that we had 102°+ degree weather........with heat indexes up to 115° for 14 straight days!)

Not only do we appreciate the fantastic Vitro knowledge that you share with us, but speaking for myself and others..........we just enjoy you.

So anytime that you can stop in, even if it's just for a moment...........we love it!
