I uploaded a description of Japanese Pinch Pontil Transitionals. It's probably more than you want to read, but perhaps it will be helpful to you. ... Roger

Great piece of work! I personally learned a ton, and enjoyed it very much.

good info on your web page
I live in netherland -europe,most of my old marbles are transitionals
and most of them are japanese i think and maybe some of them are german.
The slags colors are indeed all shades of blue-green and amber.
I have a few yellow one purple and not any red one.
The red-white opaque ones that you showed looks a lot as those so called american agates.
Can you explain the difference between the american agates and the japanese pinch pontils,is it a pontil thing?

Hi RD, Some of the amber ones can be a very light color, verging on yellow. But I'm thinking of yellow like, for example Akro slag yellow. The "crease-pontil" type (which is sometimes confused with these) appear in a bright flourescent yellow.

Hi Winnie, I don't have nearly as many CAC as I would like to have, but my understanding is that CAC American Agates have a "9 and tail" that is similar to other CAC "9" handgathereds, which means it will be more loosely formed, not such a smooth and distinct wraping around the marble, and the cutoff looks more typically CAC, with two sets of striping meeting at a cutoff line, that does not usually have any "pontil" associated with it. Also, the American Agates are on a slightly pinkish-white base. I'll take some pics that illustrate this on my next pic-taking session. ... Roger
