The green and orange 8 finger styles were almost always cracked due to orange color. Most of these were originally found by one individual who found them at a craft store going out of business. He neded up selling a bunch to Bob Block at Columbus Show a few eyars back plus other collectors. The people that selectively collect these know that and probably the reason this one went high. Personally no interest although I have one of those fractured examples in a box somewhere. It rolled arouind in my explorer for a year before I found it again and I saw it again a few weeks ago. in a huge lot somewhere.

Browndog's mib is a gladding Vitro cat. I can't call it a hybrid because half or more of them are mixed in colors. Gladding made lots of cats with eight veins. Mostly the veins are on the inside, sometimes they fan out, and sometimes they are horseshoe shaped. These cats do not line up in Peltier fashion (alternating) at the cutlines.

I passed over Bob's marble as a misidentified Gladding mib. Immediately, I passed over Terry's mib as well. I did, because both colors of veins are perfect Gladding color matches.

However, now that I look at them, I am not certain. Surely, the ribbons match up. If they are 8 fingers, I probably have a bunch of them in the 500lb stack of Gladding cats. I think I might go blind looking for them.

I only have one 8 fingers on a colorless base. These are what I am accustomed to viewing:

The top third yellow mib is the only one which does not light up.

And here are some oddities with only five fingers, and one which fell off the rollers:

Randy, thanks for sharing your thoughts on these, because it helped clear up a 'grey' area for me. I do have a handful of Vitro 8 vaned cats (with clear bases) and although I *knew* that they probably weren't 8 Fingers, you've helped confirm it for me. Very Happy

The price on those certainly did go higher than expected but reflects a trend I noticed at the recent Texas show. The price on many Vitros is going up, up, up and the prices on the some of the more traditional sought after types like Akro Popeyes is dropping fast. Several standard Popeyes were available for under $15 and nobody was buying them. If the trend continues, by this time next year, a Yellowjacket will be going for the same price as a Popeye. Perhaps Vitro is starting to get the attention and respect it deserves. Has anyone noticed the price on Fisher Jewel Trays? Waaaaaaaaay up from a year ago.

I've noticed an increase in Vitro prices too...........and at the same time, noticed an increase in Vitro collectors on all of the boards! Very Happy After seeing the picture of your "box" here the other day, I started thinking that I probably narrowed my collection down too much. *sniffle* Should've kept all of my Vitros.

You have to keep in mind that Alan (and Danny & Gretchen before him) have always had deep pockets amongst their clientele so you have to factor in some craziness in bidding that is not necessarily a reflection of market movement. That said, the Vitro cage-style/finger cat's-eye marbles that have strength these days are the unusual hybrid ones or sets of 6 or more different ones sold as a group or ones in pink glass or ones with definite documented run and shift dates and times or larger ones or whatever....David
