After studying Alan's cullet pictures, I did pick this one out that seems to have the same colors. From what little I have learned, it looks like a "patch" of oxblood on an opaque base of many different shades of tans and light browns. There are a lot of very small "flashes" under the surface. Are these fractures or small pieces of mica? I really can't see them well enough with my wimpy magnifying glass. The marble is an 11/16" one. Seems like I have a lot of this size from my fathers collection. Of course, all are differant, with white base, translucent base, clambroth (?) base, clear base, swirled base, and all have the patch of various color. I will have to get busy with the photos. It is a tidious process to move these pix back and forth from Photobucket. I post mostly at night, and a lot of times fall asleep at the wheel....zzzzzzzzzz

From the pics, it looks like you found one. Because of the brown/tan base, collectors refer to this type as a Chocolate Oxblood. It is not an easy marble to find.
thanks. |

Thank you! Now, just because I am green, any id on what companies produced this type, and is it a patch type or something else? Lots of questions because......I want to know.
Thank you all. _________________ Don't Tread On Me |
