Inspired by Roger's pinch pontils,I noticed a cut-off line at some of my clearies.
The line-crease looks the same as the creases on my "Japanese slags and 2 color opaques,i don't know what to think about it.

Here is a slag with the same crease-line mark as the clear one.

Hi Winnie, Your blue one looks like a pinch-pontil that didn't get very much white striping glass. I've seen ones like that before. There are a few other types that can sometimes have cutoffs that are similar - some figure8 type marbles have that cutoff, and also I see it sometimes on the single color (likely Japanese) catseyes. The nature of the cutoff on the Japanese ones, and also the fact that the striping glass seems to wobble around the marble, lead some people to believe that they were actually machine-made. I prefer to use the category "transitional" based on the general appearance being more similar to transitionals than machine-mades - at least until we might (if ever) know about their production. I think that the figure8 and the early catseyes were a part of the same progression. ... Roger |

many cheap asian machine made clearies show rough cut offs. I have seen rounding machines with scissor like shears built onto the machine. Looked like something that would have been used for handgathering. sliding the machine under a gob feeder of some sort may have been possible and resulted in a similar shear mark with no 9. Maybe some sort of similar process went on where those were made. Just a thought. Peace,Galen _________________ Peace,Galen |

Here is an opaque swirl with the same cut off line,so maybe they were made all 3 in the same manner by the same sort of machien?

thered/white ones are one of the standard pinch-pontil group. Here's pics of some from an original box including transparents and the red/white. ...Roger
