This Slag is slightly under 5/8" and has a nice "9" coming out of the center, trailing off into a fine tail (the double picture). The opposite side shows where the "9" continues through the marble and comes out ending in a fine line (the single picture). There are no pontils but there is a cut-off line (single picture, the end of the tail is pointing to it). Since MFC didn't make red slags, who do we blame this one on? In Alan Basinet's old internet sight he doesn't list "amber" as a CA slag color. Here's a pic of a red slag alongside a purple one. The purple one was found along with several others that were all quite obviously MFC. ...
