There were a couple of good threads on LOM about the "Master Tiger Eyes". Because I'm lazy, I'm going to replicate part of the thread here. hehe This is what Galen said:
This is a true Master Tiger eye. It should have a flattened ribbon in the center of the marble with a dark spot to one end. They are similar to some sparklers in constuction. Many folks have started calling any Master with similar coloring(Dark spot) Tiger Eyes but they are not. It is a construction thing that makes a Tigereye. Peace,Galen
Then this is what I replied:
Galen, I had read that about the Tiger Eye having a wide flat band in the center stretching from pole to pole, on Alan's site (www.marblealan.com) when I first started collecting. One thing that I wondered about is where Alan says about the Tiger Eye, "It has been noted that most of these are white, black, and orange." ??? I wonder what that means...........that there are some that aren't in those colors? I had assumed that the original description for the name had been morphed by collectors into any Sunburst with white, black & orange exclusively, since almost everyone now calls these Tiger Eyes. Ya know, kinda like how the Akro "Indian Blanket" started out as one where the red didn't touch the black, etc. but now is used commonly to describe both the red/black/yellow and red/black/white "Specials". In fact, many of the pics of Tiger Eyes that I have saved, are from Block's auctions and they are Sunbursts that are orange/white/black. Now here's an "unofficial" Tiger Eye.
;)
Catherine, you'll have to go to Virginia to get that one. That's its new home.
There are some really pretty Masters out there, aren't there?

Hello all..one of my favorite facets of the forum is how a simple question about one thing, will lead to such discussion that in turn opens doors and teaches about so many other things in the mib world and beyond. y'all are the greatest. Thank you for the tiger eye discussion, am learning so much.
Tank...I have been righteously and religiously studying marbles, in books, in hand, on ebay and a whole lot here at the Zone for about 7 months..and I try to pay attention...so thanks for the compliment, I hope that at least most of the time I can discern the real thing from the bs thing! I am always tempted to write the seller when they are so far off base, but its always difficult to tell if they tried and fell short, or are purposefully being misleading( even deceitful0. Theres an auction on now, where the seller has listed antique marbles, and one is a Joseph's Coat...I just couldn't stop myself from writing to tell them it was really a VITRO! LOL. I got a nice response though that it is not their area of expertise and they really appreciated the help..so it worked out!
I hope if i advertise something that is incorrect, someone will correct me!
Still hot here...how's it everywhere else for everyone else??
Tiger eyes are cool..but I'm prejudiced because the Masters are all still my favorite mibs!
many thanks and many wishes for joy to all

derrick, can you expand on your reasoning? what features would a tiger eye have that this one doesn't?
catherine, you pick some really good auctions to ask about. your b.s. meter must be working pretty good

This is just my opinion on tiger-eyes...color alone doesn't make it a tiger-eye to me. It also has to do with construction.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Derrick. ...Roger
1- Imperial circa 1995
2- I'd say MM tiger-eye
3- Amber slag , likely polished
4- Indian blanket that didn't really cork (i agree likely dug)
5- Is there new-old-fashion in those colors?

Greetings fellow Montanan!
1- Foriegn (think Vacor or Imperial)
2- Master IMHO (not a tiger-eye)
3- Looks amber slag IMHO. pic 3 looks to have a shear mark.
4- Not an indian Blanket, but a dug Akro IMHO.
5- Possibly Champion IMHO.
Derrick
