This might help some others too. I'm going to paste what Smitty wrote on Marble Mental about the definition of an Aquamarine.
Quote:
When my wife, Nancy, started to refer to her favorite marble, at the time, as Vitro Aquamarines back in the early 90's she had no idea that the term would "catch on"
Back then we would find them in "5 for a buck" boxes and in "junk" piles at the shows.
We first met Chuck and Diane Brandstetter at an antique shop my wife was working at and they were looking at my marbles for sale. My wife showed them her collection which consisted exclusively of approximately 80 aquamarines and Diane was blown away because she loved them too.
Nancy told her what she called them and Chuck and Diane adopted the name also.
Originally it was "aqua/maroon" but that seemed confusing and was short lived and changed to aquamarine.
The best example of what we (Brandstetters and us) call Vitro Aquamarines are the 4 in Bob's (nutz4lutz) pic.
There are going to be slight variations in color and I don't think there is anything carved into stone as to what qualifies. I just wanted to shed some light as to what "we" call Aquamarines.
They are generally opaque with a cream color base and somewhat of an aqua patch and also a maroonish/brown patch.
A group of 80 is beautiful, and eventually my wife sold hers to Diane.
Oh, and by the way, since that first little coincidental meeting years ago we have all become the best of friends!!
Smitty
This picture was the one that Smitty referred to in the paragraph above.

The green color in those isn't the right color for aquamarine. Sissy

kris i think yours on the right might be a buttermilk.
the aquamarines were originally called "aqua-maroons" and had a quality of sandy beach and dark red sunset over an aqua blue ocean. (this info is from smitty, whose wife named them, and the brandstetters)
the ones windy posted are excellent examples, i believe.

I'm pretty sure someone posted a pic of a box of these. If I remember correctly they had No.15 marked on them.
