In Block's book (1997) pg. 122, he says that these are Ravenswood marbles. But I seem to remember having seen them called "Big Boys" in a bag from either Master or Marble King. Can anyone clear this up for me? (the marbles are all about 1"). Thanks, ... Roger

I'm getting the name Paul Bunyons in my head for some reason? I think Ravenswood made them. No quoting me on that though.

I have always considered those to be Alley swirls. They show up in MK bags like the one pictured (couple different style headers) during the same time as the smaller Alley swirls in bags (thought to be Heaton in the past0 were sold by MK before they started making their own marbles. The Paul Bunyan bags had a little different type marbles - one source said Akro patch type and another said Master - those marbles are totally different from these.

By the way, I still think the marble that Mike Johnson gave David was Alley (similar to the blue one in the bag). I think someone was still thinking of the old Big Boy - Paul Bunyan bag stories and thought this was Ravenswood.

Here's a picture of the Bunyan bag from Greenberg's Guide to Marbles.

I can't remember which book it was that attributed them to Akro
.........but from this picture alone, I'd say that it's probably
50-50 for one maker over the other. Wink

roger, edit the subject to say "?? for Poplarhead" - those are some of don's favorites. he'll know for sure who made them.

I always wondered about these myself, some of them can almost appear to have a couple different shades of color.

Here are two Ravenswood shooters (right one for sure). The one on the left is 0.98 and the one on the right is 0.91. Marble on left has a slightly mint green base.
