I think this one makes 3 twists around the equator. Two of the twists are really close together, but they are separate twists. Is this a prize name or a special? Another 5/8" marble.

I was thinking that, but this marble's swirls are more orange than the red colored I have seen in photos of other Imperials. I don't know if it is just the way the pictures looked, but I had assumed that all Imperials had that deep reddish color.
I take it that the number of twists on a cork have no bearing on a new type of corkscrew? It seems to me that only one twist would be all that was required. It this an unusual marble with that many twists?

Galen, that ad is interesting. No mention of Prize Name or Special. The very bottom marble on the left is odd, or perhaps just the way the illistration is. So it would be correct to have corks in this group: Specials, Prize Names, Aces, Tri-colors, and Popeyes.
All others would be experimentals or dug corks?

Akro used many more names than those for corkscrews. They used Popeye as a sales gimic for a couple of sets not a marble type. . Also, they occasionally used the same name for different marbles at different times. The Imperial ad is pre-corkscrew. Also cardinal red was also a slag name. I believe these pics were originally posted by Dani(Zaboo) and only a partial ammount of the names they used. Peace,Galen

Galen,
Thanks again for all the information! That Akro catalog is great. The marble that I thought has at least 3 twists could be an Imperial. I wish I had a confirmed one in my hands so I could see the real colors involved.

I don't mean to offend, but who is Roger Hardy? Is the gentleman a member of this forum? I have heard the first name a few times.

Roger Hardy is "Mr. Akro Agate". He engaged in considerable digs at the site long before such activities were restricted. Over an extended of time, Roger and Claudia created and cataloged all manner of Akro marbles, Akro ware and all types of related items. He made significant purchases in Clarksburg (where he and Claudia live) from former employees and gathered a lot of factory history, documents etc. Roger has researched Akro more than anyone else and his knowledge extends beyond just Akro's marble product lines.
The results of his work, research and study were presented in a 1992 book "The Complete Line of Akro Agate Co." which is considered the most authoritative work on Akro.

All that the number of twists mean is how fast the machinery was running or how well the glass caught on the pin for the cup to spin it. And it is the various oxblood swirl types that are usually found in original Imperial boxes. peace,Galen
