5/8" opaque orange and blue Akro corkscrew. I really like these very bright colors. Is there a "collector's" name for this marble?

Nick name for these is Claudia. As in Claudia Hardy. |

I believe that the very large (all >1" dia.) true Experimental Orange and Blue corkscrews have been referred to in some small circles by that name. I'll note that name is of relatively recent usage.
The small(er) (1" dia. and less) orange and blue corks are just that - corks. The use of the term "Prize Name" is correct.
These true experimentals (in corkscrew form) are exceeding rare and comparatively huge. All of the ones I have handled (approximately 12) have a light orange peel surface texture due to challenges in cooling a marble that large. Related to the corkscrews are the experimental patches (same glass and size) that were dug at the same small location. The patches are believed to number <200).
In any case - the small corkscrews are not known accurately by the Claudia name. Just my opinion - but the use of the term "Claudia" referring to the experimentals is a recent invention of unclear purpose (beyond obviously referring to Claudia Hardy).
Respectfully,
Alan |

The odds on this being an Experimental are extremely rare. Actually the colors don't look right on and that is critical.
Otherwise this would be a rare marble.
I've had only a cpl. of the Experimental Corks and they were the larger size. I've had numerous of the ones commonly referred to as Half 'n' Half. Only once did i have one, and I had it verified by the Hardy's, that qualified and was right at 5/8" as I recall. I may still have it! But it was a 5/8" Experimental half 'n' half, not a cork unfortunately. Alan has these exactly pegged and Clyde is right about the Claudia appelation. I think it is totally cool that Claudia had the marble named after her. She and Roger are solid marble people; maybe a little narrow in their marble interests! David |
