This marble is right on 1/2", so I don't know if that qualifies for peewee statis. Does a marble have to be under 1/2"? Anyway, this little guy has a ribbon of darkish color under the blue patch that looks like an anemic washed out type of oxblood. It is a strange color that I cannot even name: green, gray, blue, red, black, whatever?? Is there a collector's term for this non-color?
Can anyone identify the maker and type of marble this is?
Thanks!

1/2-inch or under qualifies as a peewee...anything over 1/2-inch = nope.
that brownish-green streak does not look like oxblood, to me.
those ribbon-like striations in your second pic suggest Peltier as the manufacturer--perhaps an Acme Realer?

Definitely a strange one.... I seen loads of dug peltiers in the last year and a half (thanks Mikey) and I would have no problem putting this one with them.

Okay, Peltier is a possibility. That weird color, I know it doesn't look like true Akro oxblood, but I have seen descriptions of other maker's marbles where they claim to have an oxblood also. This is confusing, unless it is just outright not true, and Akro is the ONLY company who made oxblood, which is what I had believed. I guess other companies tried to copy that formula with mixed results. Anyway, the only reason I asked about this color was the fact of it resembling oxblood laid over blue, such as on a Blueox. My monitor might be out of whack and I am seeing these two colors as really close, when in fact they are not. Again....as soon as I get some books. I have already put my Christmas list in to my girls for Amazon gift cards so I can purchase marble literature. Hurry up, Santa!
(lame excuse...I seem to be able to spend little bits here and there for the odd marble, which would add up to some nice books instead, but what can I say...) _________________ Don't Tread On Me |

Looks like a peltier to me. Many many marbles get odd ribbons, streaks ect of Oxblood looking glass. It is fairly common. It was not done on purpose by the manufacturer. This looks like what may have happened here. _________________ Peace,Galen |

I think there can be some fuzziness with the 1/2" requirement. Purely subjective though. Heck, if it's a 3 color clambroth, NM and say 1/64" over a half inch I would probably be inclined to give it the benefit of a doubt(I know denial) at least in weighted pricing. Being that small and being that fantastic deserves a perk or two! Otherwise I am strictly 1/2" or less. David |

I agree, it does have Acme Realer type qualities.
(a back lit image would help)
also, a dark line/streak along the edge of the patch is pretty common on many PPPs.
"Heck, if it's a 3 color clambroth, NM and say 1/64" over a half inch I would probably be inclined to give the plastic calipers a little extra squeez or some extra push pressure through a plastic go/no go template"

Yeah, I'd be hunting for that one spot on the marble where it lined up just perfect to establish my 1/2" requirement. I've always wondered about that with slightly oblong marbles. What's cricket in measuring with your calipers? David |

This marble is dead on 1/2" according to my "falcon" Auburn, Maine, Made In The U.S.A. wooden ruler I've had for years.
I took some back-lit shots, not much luck, so as soon as I get it figured out, I will post them.
Thanks for all the replies to this thread! _________________ Don't Tread On Me |

I'm still using a yellow plastic calipher that I got within a year of getting into marbles('round 1988) at San Lorenzo Lumber, Santa Cruz CA. Swiss Made.
So worn that you can't read the measurements beyond 3" but that's getting into sphere category and who cares. David |
