Hello gang!....its been a very long time since Ive posted here. I'm pretty much a regular over at LOM but have taken a break from there too ......I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of you at the up-comming Vegas show, and am trying frantically to get my marbles in order specifically for that. In the past recent years, Ive really been on this Ravenswood journey. Does anyone have any decent Ravenswood marbles they want to part with?
I've got just about any type of marble as consideratrion for trade or will purchase groups or individual Ravenswood marbles outright!....I'm looking for the higher end ones as well as the commons. If anyones interested, hit me with some pics or send me a PM
-Chuck Jr.
edit: Sorry, I meant to say Lizzy
PS- Tank, isnt it funny how we keep memories of our favorite mibs etched in our minds? The 1st, 4th and 7th marble you have on your logo are mine....I remember when you requested pics from members for your logo....lol _________________ -Chuck Jr.

Are you aware of the sets of Ravenswood marbles that I've been selling since forever. If interested email me at dlcmib@yahoo.com and I will provide you with particulars. Also maybe check out my Ravenswood article(s) at Joe's Marbles. David Chamberlain |

Question for David Chamberlain: In Photo#5 (below) of your Ravenswood article at joemarbles.com, you addressed a particular Alley caligraphy marble (arrow) that shouldnt be confused with other Ravenswoods.
My question is, In your picture above, are all of those Alley mibs or are they Ravenswoods with the exception of the third (arrow) marble? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to identify the marbles below in which a couple are very similar to your second one (blue and orange mib).
Heres a line up of the marbles in question.....My first and third marbles are very similar to your second one. Are mine Alley, Ravenswood or Champion?....Opinions over at LOM varied.....even a possibility of foreign?
Question not just for David. .....Any help is appreciated on all three ID's _________________ -Chuck Jr. |

I don't recognize them as foreign,I think you mean Euro swirls, maybe the first one looks a bit like an Euro swirl but i'm not sure at all.
Anyway nice lookers.
I have a question, where do you look for to IDed a swirl, the colors-the pattern or both, what comes first? I think I mean to say those 3 marbles have the same color but the patterns are so different from each other.

Thanx for your reply Winnie, and hopefully I didnt offend, but when I said foreign I only meant to convey, non-American.
To answer your question I look at the pattern first, however with some mibs the color is just as much a contributing factor. Another thing is the "feel" of the glass. I know this sounds a little crazy, but i guess it also means the quality of the glass.
The majority vote thus far on the first mib has been Alley Agate which has been one of the reasons for my question to David Chamberlain _________________ -Chuck Jr. |

Hi,
Been away from the computer for 2-3 days so didn't catch this over the weekend(Frittering away my time cycling, frisbee golf and World Series + working on a new marble article). To answer you about the four calligraphy style marbles shown in the Alley Agate article they are all Alley Agate marbles and I made the special distinction with that third one because most people seeing it would classify it as Ravenswood because of the brown but that's not the case here. I forgot to answer the part about Iding your marbles shown. I do not think they are like the 2nd one in my photo of four. Any of the ones that I have seen like my caligraphy Blue and Orange have a stark white base. Yours seems to shade off quite a bit. Also the orange seems a bit too broad although the dark caligraphy-like swirl within the marbles bespeaks Alley Agate Co. I suspect that your marbles are Alley Agate Co. but they are not exactly like the one you are endeavouring to compare them to.
I've only had about six or seven of these Blue & Orange ones myself. I only recently discovered another in marble inventory that I brought back from California. Needless to say I was stoked. I valued that Blue & Orange one in the $90 to $125 range depending on aesthetics. The third Brown one I have had only three of those and have valued them 'round $90 but now maybe more. I don't have a handle on that I have had so few. At times you can only conjecture.
The Mustard & Ketchup caligraphy one I'd put in the $45+ range and the pistachio one at one time I thought was CAC. Duh! Love the base color in that one. They were selling at $35 ea. during the mid-1990s. I rate them higher now, obviously.
I love my Alley marbles! David |

What makes these calligraphy types??????I thought the calligraphies were like the type Chuck put in the ALOX post. They appear as fancy Calligraphy. I see nothing that makes me think of fancy calligraphy on these _________________ Peace,Galen |

This may be a good opportunity to clarify the term "calligraphy" as it relates to marbles. Although I may simply be uninformed, I always thought that this type had thin stripes that resembled Asian or Middle Eastern characters or even fancy English script - more like these, and perhaps the Alley on the right in David's photo. -Ric
or maybe this multicolor version.
