|
|
I read in Alan Marble's older site that some Akro corkscrew's didn't actually cork because of the spinning cup and pin not working during a run. Is this true? It is stated that these type of marbles are uncommon, but I have not seen a picture of one for reference. I have these two that look like patches, but to me, the patch is much too thin and too long. Also, the color is more on the surface than a patch shows with a deeper/thicker stripe of color. The bases on these two look like an opaque Prize Name standard color, and the translucent looks like an Ace base for a standard Ace.
This is a shot in the dark, but I have been wondering about these thinner stripes of color versus the larger patches on these Akro marbles. Any comments to shoot me down are welcome as usual! I am willing to act like a clay pidgeon anytime as long as I learn something.

Those appear to have been made as patches. Peace,Galen _________________ Peace,Galen |

They both look like legitimate patches to me as well. Nothing funny about them at all. David |

I agree to that, but is there such a marble as described in Marble Alan's archives? And if so, what would it look like? I am curious as to how a glob looked before it was spun in the cup. _________________ Don't Tread On Me |

As I understand it the Popeye Patches qualify for what you're mentioning as attributed to Akro. I've a doz. or so of them around here someplace. They aren't particularly expensive as they seemed especially prolific. David |

It is believed by many that the so called Popeye patches were made as patches.

Oops! I'm just remembering the Popeye Patches from when they first arrived on the scene in the 1990s and made a minor sensation....then it all died down. I haven't kept my nose to the grindstone regarding them but back then the initial assumption was that they were a slip up. They never really got off the ground in importance and I hadn't given them further consideration. I stand corrected. David |
