I never payed much attention to the hand mades.
When i was looking at them I saw this one from which I always thought it was a sort of solid core,now I see several strands in the core and think could it be a Latticinio core swirl?
it's 1 inch.

Yes from my personal collection.
I already knew the red and green cores are rare but a few days ago I even didn't know they exist,the blue cores.
As I said I didn't pay much attention to them.
When I looked in my box with hand-mades,I thought it was a strange looking marble with the seperated strands,it was the first time that I saw it.
Boy am I glad i'm on the forums to learn LOL.

I believe there is some fuzzy ground in between solid-cores and latticinios. I think that solid-cores are not actually solid colored glass all the way through the center. They are constructed with closed bands around an inner clear core - I have seen a few that were broken open. Like the first (blue) one below, usually the bands are thick, and completely closed, but if you look carefully you can often find seams. But sometimes the core is made up of more, and thinner bands, that can show some separation, like the second (yellow/orange) one below. Sometimes, like the third (yellow) one, the core can look almost like a very fine latticinio. maybe some would call the third one a latticinio - I don't know. I feel that in order to be a latticinio, there should be at least as much space in between the strands as there is thickness in the strands. ... Roger

Very interesting thread, will be looking through mine to see if there are any inbetweenies! From here, Winnies blue core looks the same type as Rogers 1st two just more separated, Rogers 3rd would say latticino... but... now... ? not too sure..

Blue Latticino's aren't seen to often, Roger makes a good point. I think the differentiating feature is that on most "conventional" Latt's the strands are equally spaced, but more importantly, the strands are the same thickness. Once you start to see flatter/ribbon strands like Winnie's first and third pic (and Rogers first two pics) I'm thinking less latticino and more likely intended to be a solid or ribbon core. The missing white stripe and elongated air bubble in it's place also could indicate it's closer to the end of cane and the core's starting to become unraveled.

Still a unique marble for sure, and after saying all that it could still very well fit the definition of what most people would consider a latticinio type marble. Like most hand mades, there are some odd-balls that straddle the mainstream definitions, and that's OK by me.

Winnie, that's a beaut.
"inbetweenies!' I like that word...LOL
I agree, Roger makes a good piont.
I dont know why, but I assume whoever coined the term 'latticino' meant --->"looks like lattice work panels when viewing through the marble"
or something like that

latticino=lattice, get it?
