I sure am having fun at my torch bringing out what was once a beautiful piece of glass. Watching the transformation on chips, dents and gouges go back into the glass to become clear again - it's a true thrill.

Hey, Rich - I think the people like it just that this board is close to the least frequented board (although I like the poeple here!) |

I have to warn everyone - there are only certain conditions on a swirl that will allow a good repair. The color near the outside surface MUST be deep enough to allow the repair of the cracks, chis and dents that occur on an old marble.
I had one swirl marble that the owner followed my iron clad rule - he gave me the marble and I tried a repair. We discussed the fact that the colors were too close to the surface that I felt that if I tried to repair this particular bad spot, that the colors would be disturbed and the swirl pattern world be compromised. He said, "give it a go!" So as careful as I was, the little triple yellow swirls were too close to the surface and became "bent."
I showed him the result (after I repaired 3 that caused no problems) and he said, "Well, it's your marble so do what you want with it." So I took artistic license and re-heated the marble up in my kiln very slowly, puntied it up at opposite ends and give it a new twist!
I met with the person a few days later, showed him this "new" marble, he loved it so I gave it back to him!
I hope my little story helps everyone understand - the glass is going to do what IT wants to do and there are no guarantees of what will happen! |
