The Pontil on this one is a blob of what looks to be clear glass. The rest of the marble appears to be built off of this "blob" There is no Mica in the "blob" nor are there any signs of faceting. Looks like it was melted smooth after the fact. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you put the marble in water to see if there is a casing of clear (mica-free) glass? Perhaps its just thick enough to notice at the pontil. ... Roger

Very interesting looking specimen there, Dave! Wink Wish that I knew more about hand-mades............but I see we've got Roger here now, so I feel better!

Well I did the water thingie and took a pic. the Lavender seems to be pretty consistant throughout as does the Mica. The blob does have a couple of specks right at the surface that only showed up after I watered it. I would have to guess not cased? I love the effect the water gave to the dark green one that is cased. Neat.

I still can't help you...........but I did want to say how cool those marbles look "under water" and being able to see their construction. Shocked

It's really a neat looking picture!

It doesn't look cased to me either, but it was just a thought. Those are some very nice micas. Nice shrunken yellow, and great cased purple, or whatever that is top middle. If you plan to have those around for our trading session, I guess I'd better pull out some quality corks! ... Roger
