Tri-Color Hen on Nest Sulphide Marble
Almost every Morphy sale contains a selection of antique and vintage marbles. This rare sulphide marble with an imbedded tri-color hen on a nest is in superb original condition, with great color and detail. Graded a 9.7 out of 10, it carries a $1,500-2,000 estimate
Painted Rearing Horse Marble)
Look closely and you’ll see a delicately painted rearing horse inside this sulphide marble. The detail is superb, from the brown tail and mane to the black eyes and hooves. Condition is 9.5 out of 10. Estimate $3,000-4,000.

When these were made, they COULDN'T have been made for children (I think). Were they just objets d'art? |

Yes, they were made for children. I have a sulphide with a painted bird (black eyes and beak, yellow feathers, and green stump it's sitting on) and that was quite damaged from playing with it). I polished it and now it looks amazing again. |

I live about an hour from Morphy's auction house and have visited. They have a huge collection of some very impressive marbles. If you are anywhere close to Adamstown Pa. it is worth the time driving! Last year he sold Leonardo Di Caprio's entire set of Star Wars Memorabilia for charity! Very cool place. _________________ Maggie |

I had saved those pictures also, after they were sold. The horse sold for $3920 and the other for $2130.
Click the thumbnails below if you want to see them "up-close and personal".
