I am in a mood! Anyway, I am about to list this bag on the bay and I was wondering if anyone had any information they could give me. I know even less about bags than marbles.
It measures 2 1/2" by 4" and says "Marbles 1860" with a star underneath. It looks lighter in the picture than it is in hand. I can't remember where I got it, but I think it is old.
Thanks for looking! _________________ Maggie |

Maggie, I'm not sure who made those exactly............but they were being used by one of the Harriman, Tennessee "fake civil war/clay" marbles sellers to market all those painted "mill balls", many of which had the stars on the "marbles" also. Apparently they had a bunch of burlap bags that they stamped with the 1860 date..... to add an air of authenticity to their "fake" marbles.
These are the marbles that I'm talking about.
