Love those orange slags in the second to the last pic.......are boxes like this ever "authenticated"? I wonder about this because about a year after I had begun collecting (three years ago) I attended a small east coast show and was approached by one of the better known collectors, who shall remain nameless, to purchase several 3/4 " CAC red slags I had accumulated. He said he was completing a box he had and needed several. Is this a problem, or even a worry to collectors who pay many times the individual prices the marbles would bring if they are in an original box? The kind collector I had been talking to about if my new collection was identified correctly warned me to be careful as the items in question were priced way to low......He also identified the prospective buyer, who I knew only by the many times I had seen his name in Grist's and Block's pictures of boxed sets of Cobras and Guineas, etc....just wondering....pax Jon _________________ Ni Carborundum Illigitmi |

Yeah.........I was struck by the colors in that particular box too, Jon...........especially noticed how beautiful those orange were. (the rest of the marbles in all of the other boxes ain't too shabby either. )
You raise an interesting question about authentication. I've often wondered about that...........but couldn't imagine how it could be done. I suppose that every box that is said to have the "original" marbles in it, theoretically could have been back-filled, right?
I've heard of boxes that have been found in like, an old General Store, that had been closed for maybe 80 years.............that might be as close as "authentication" as you can get? Just askin'. _________________ Lizzy
