Thanks for posting that last pic, Sandy. Now I can definitely see the resemblance to nutforlutz's pic and the 3 in the bottom row on Paula's pic! _________________ Lizzy

Here is one that I had in my "I don't know" box. It's not an Acme Reeler. I can spot those from a mile away. The Aventurine steered me away from either Akro or master. Leaving me to think Vitro even though it's just not right for one. Now that Alley has joined the mix as a maker. I think it will fit in there better than any other maker I can think of. What do you think?

I think Alley is a very good guess, knowing how they loved using aventurine on different types of their marbles.

aventurine can spontaneously occur as a chemical reaction. the ribbon across the front with the little "cap" that extends over the pole makes me say akro on that one, dave.
edit: oh, hi, kris! fancy meeting you here! |

I'm not doubting Chris when she says Akro in your patch Dave.
Thats what I think it is also.
But check this one out....
Its one of the few intact marbles that I found at the site.
It measures 3/4"
WEIRDDDDDDDDDD........

that is way cool, Sandy!
i wanted to show the opacity of the mibs i posted earlier (aqua on custard patches):
first, one of the Anacortes mibs:
then one of the 'Alley' mibs:
You can see a difference in how translucent these are. the second group is almost transparent when you back-light them--even through the patch. it would be great to see a comparison of the Alley cullet with these. _________________ aventurine happens,

Hey I can live with it being Akro with Aventurine anyday of the week. Wish it corked though. I have a couple of other types in the "don't know" box that might fit Alley. I have not looked that box for years, forgot what was in it. Almost like getting a new lot in. |
