|
|
I fished these out of the drawer full of marbles that my mother used for making her stained glass projects. Unfortunately, several have gotten dinged up. They are all 7/8" with 4 swirled vanes that are shades of greens from almost a light white green to a seafoam color green. They look to me to be full of tiny ground pieces of adventurine, some of them very dark green, that give off the most intense sparkles in natural sunlight. It is almost like the vanes were sprinkled with a fine powder coating of geometric flakes.

Those are so pretty............especially when you can catch the glitter of the aventurine!
I'm not so good at catseye ID's..............but when I see green aventurine I think of Vitro or MK.................although I'm gonna venture that they are Marble Kings.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me (like Duffy) will come along and correct me or confirm it. _________________ Lizzy

Adventurine is great stuff....I have a few single marbles with black (?) adventurine, at least it has the same qualities as the greens.
I took the Vitro id from "Land of Marbles" site. There are a grouping of Vitro cat eyes with adventurine that are similar to mine. That is the only information I used to make that id. The marbles on that site that are for sale are smaller. Could that be the difference in identifying some marbles? I mean by different size even though they look the same? _________________ Don't Tread On Me |

Sometimes size can be a help in ruling out a maker.........since not all of them made marbles in the same sizes. But I believe that both Vitro and MK made them in the 7/8" size. Not sure if I'm seeing yours correctly there.........but the vanes come together in the way that makes me think MK, rather than Vitro.
Here's the current MK website with some examples of their cats.

P.S. I sent Duffy a PM so maybe he'll get a chance to chime in here. _________________ Lizzy

Oh yeah.............I should've thought of this earlier. Here's a link to "Marble Mental" and the administrator there is a cat collector. They've got several extensive posts on cats that might help out also.

Thank you Ponkochan and Duffyman!
Ponkochan, you have gone above and beyond what I needed. Thank you so much!
Duffyman, sounds like you are the cat man. Thanks!
So...Marble King cat eyes with adventurine, and 7/8"s. The 1960's melds in nicely with my mothers early start in stained glass projects. I know she was using marbles in some of her work. But I also know that without having that marble in hand, any i.d. is preliminary, and I will keep this in mind.
Thanks again!
More marble pictures coming, so if the forum doesn't get tired, I will keep on truckin.

Keep on with the marble pics.............it's the next best thing to being able to admire someone's collection up-close & personal. _________________ Lizzy
