Marble Literature Mini book review:
I picked up this book at the library and was pleasantly surprised to discover that the cat's eye in the title is a marble that the narrator played with in the 1950s-60s in Canada. There's a brief discussion of how the kids played with their marbles (sitting on the ground with their legs spread out and setting a marble up between their legs as a target). The narrator's brother buries a jar of his favorite marbles in a hidden location, and I kept hoping they would be unearthed later in the book, but they never were.

Margaret Atwood is quite famous. Socially conscious with a bent. Have read 2 or 3 of her books but not for quite some time. Canadian writer of particular note. Wrote SURFACING, LIFE BEFORE MAN, THE HANDMAID'S TALE and many more. Currently reading THE BLIND ASSASSIN(2000) David |
