I probably wouldn't have ever thought to look for aventurine in one of these. Very cool! |

That was made by Alley at both locations Pennsboro and St.Marys sites from Pennsboro 1932-1939 and St.Marys 1939-1949. He made two different style dishes one named Orphan Annie and the other named Chiquita. This one is the Orphan Annie style. I think most of this style was made at Pennsboro. Many pieces of the Chiquita and Orphan Annie have been found at Pennsboro. Lots of Chiquita pieces found at St.Marys but not much Orphan Annie style. A woman who worked for Alley at St.Marys remembers the Chiquita type well and had some. Some of the boxed Chiquita sets also came with a kids size play plastic table cloth and a plastic fork, knife, spoon set rolled in a cloth holder. I have been several years but finally found a boxed Chiquita set with the original fork, knife, spoon in the cloth wrap. Still looking for a boxed set of Orphanie Annie dishes.
Good eye Steve. |
