I have no idea what a *spaceball* is Kris I was finally ably to backlight this one in a dark room with a strong light and it is NOT opaque black, but has a very DARK clear red glass. Glass that appears black is actually deep, deep, deep red or purple. There is however, obsidian (volcanic glass) that can be black.
