I've been collecting since about 2000. Got into when I was asked to sell some marbles for a guy. Couldn't figure out why certain lots went for more than others, and that's all it took.... I was hooked. Unfortunately, although I've owned some fairly sweet stuff, I've sold a good deal of it over the years to keep the family finances intact.
Still love to buy, sell and collect though.
PS... I'm not the John Davis who makes marbles.
Regards, John

HI !
I've been collecting marbles ALL OF MY LIFE ! I just didn't
know it until I saw a friend's collection back in 2001.
She had some marbles I recognized that I HAD at my Parent's house.
Mom had to Fed-X my collection to me the NEXT DAY !!!!!

I use to buy marbles at the Flea Market that would be held during
the Spring and Summers that was located across from one of
the streets my Paper Route was on. This was back in Champaign IL
where I grew up..........uh........or was a kid.........uhmmm......let's
just say that's where lived with my Mom and Dad.

Once my Mom sent my marbles to me I HAD to learn more about them.
And HAD TO HAVE MORE OF THEM !!!!!!! I bought a few books....thought I'd be able to I.D. them ALL by the NEXT DAY......... Shocked
RRRRIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHTTT !!!! Rolling Eyes

I stumbled into the " BOARDS" via GOOGLE SEARCH as well as Leroy.
He ended up doing his MAGIC on some big Ol' 2 inch Handmades I
HAVE.......and also let me know about some guy named " BO " who
lived in Phoenix. I was in Tucson ( Marbleless City ) at the time and
wanted to talk " Marbles". I met Bo.....Mike Close and Pea-Wee (Steve)
when Bo was kind enough to invite me up to his place ( The NEVER ENDING MARBLE SHOW ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy HUH.....and I thought
those GUYS where gonna be beg'n for my un-identified W.V. SWIRLS !

SO............here I am. A true PELTHEAD thanx to the Flea Markets back
in Illinios where I got most of my 1st Childhood's marbles !!!!

RAR............. Cool

Hello all!

My name is James and I live in Quincy, IL. I started collecting in 1999, buying everything I could, (big mistake). I met Guy Gregg at the marble show in Hannibal, and that got me started with the Peltier obsession. My collection is still pretty small, but I like them. I get just as much enjoyment out of trying to get a good picture of a marble as I do collecting them.

I'm also kinda hooked on a couple of contemporary makers. I LOVE all of Mike Bartons marbles, and also can't get enough of Mike Edmondsons fancy slags and shadow marbles.

I never have been happy with how I could display my marbles. A couple of years ago I started making Walnut display boxes so I could show off what I had. I sold a number of them on the boards and at ebay. I made the holes too small and the marbles were hard to remove even though you could really show the best side of a marble without it moving. I've since improved the design, making the holes larger, and making them all 60 - 40 boxes, (meaning 60% of the marble is in the bottom). Now all you have to do is turn the box upside down and the marble is easily removed.

This is getting pretty long so just one quick story. My sister and I love to camp and antique. In 2003 we took a 2 month road trip to Nevada, stopping at EVERY antique mall and store on the way. Total good marbles found, two Christensen Flames. In 2004 another 2 month road trip, this time to Florida. Total marbles found 0. I don't think there is anywhere in this country that is not marbleless.

Anyway, VERY happy to be here.

James

Nice idea to introduce ourselves. I have been overwhelmed with how much knowledge there is with all the members! My name is Rosalie and I have been interested in marbles since 2005. I bought some at an auction and now that I know a little bit, I wish I would have bought a whole lot more marbles from that barn! Oh well, one of these years I will have a nice find. My goal is to be able to have a good idea if that jar at the antique store is worth buying or am I getting Imperials. I do not want to sell any till I decide just what I like. I loved the handmades but decided to dive in on the machine made and I am falling in love with them!!!! This is so interesting to me and my husband thinks I have lost my marbles. BUT he actually started looking at some of them and really liked some of them. There is hope for him yet!!

Most of you know me already. My name is Derrick, live in Montana and work as a directional driller on the oilrigs. Been collecting marbles since about 1994. My cousin and uncle both collect also and got me into it back then.

I collect mainly CAC's, Pelt NLR's and oxblood, but I'm a sucker for any great looking or hard to find marble. I also enjoy demolition derbies, both spectating and driving. I love muscle cars, marbles, and my girlfriend....not necessarily in that order. LOL I look forward to a really fun and positive board here. Although I've been collecting half my life, I have tons to learn!

Hello everyone!

My name is Charles…but in the marble community I’m known as Chuck Jr......I have been collecting marbles for about 8 years now and really got interested after I retired from 20 years active duty service in 2001

My father and I have a regular spot at the Pasadena Flea market every 1rst Sunday of the month where we buy sell and trade marbles. We also maintain a marble store located in Pasadena (closed for now but will finally reopen at the beginning of 2008) Most people already know me from LOM, and a few of the old timers know my father from years ago....He still loves to collect marbles but has slowed down considerably for health reasons.

I love to post pictures......I guess its because I love photography....I appreciate all of the marble boards because they have been a tremendous learning source for me. Sometimes I get a little carried away over the marbles but its something I cant control....lol....However, the important thing is that I have always maintained respect for fellow members and tried to stay away from disruptive posts and shenanigans. I, Just like most of you, will give my opinions on marbles and which manufacturers I think made them. Many times there will be a difference in opinion....and that’s healthy because it promotes good discussion. I try to be very respectful of others opinions. If you think the sky is purple, I’m not going to spend any time trying to convince you otherwise because it will be a losing battle......However, for most of my posted opinions I try to back with pictures and samples to at least let the viewer know what I’m talking about or why I feel a certain way.....Remember folks, as far as identification goes, none of us were actually around to see how the old company’s made the marbles, for a lot of them, the only thing we can do is speculate. I think I’ve babbled long enough......For me its all about the marbles.

I'm Al (Al or Al Oregon) on the boards. I started collecting in 1998 after visiting a friend who collects high end marbles. He started taking them out of his SAFE and explaining them - shooter Pelt NLR's, shooter CA's, big handmades, peewees, etc. He taught me quickly to watch out for fakes (like the Vacor Superman, etc.). So, being cautious, I decided to collect packaging so I could learn about the marble made by various companies. Well, I now have around 2000 different bags of marbles from old mesh bags through cello, polybags and now even nylon net bags from Vacor, Mega, Imperial, etc. I collect them all. I also collect Akro multitwist corks, oxbloods, cat's-eyes, marbles with metallic (have 100+ of those) and I seem to accumulate a lot of machine made marbles. I haven't gotten into handmades yet but I do like them!

Hello everyone. My name is Gary and I currently live in Florida. I started collecting handmade marbles in Iowa in the early seventies as a pre-teen. I had a small collection by the time I left home at 18 but didn't pursue my collecting jones for almost 15 years. When the urge did overwhelm me again it was with machinemades. I have tried to collect a varied selection from each maker and still add a handmade or 2 now and then. I like the handgathered marbles from M.F.C., Akro and C.A.C. and of course Transitionals. I guess this is a reflection of my handmade roots. I try not to even look at Contemporary marbles because I'm worried that I'll get hooked on them as well.
I look at all of the boards weekly for info and to see marbles, the good, the bad and the ugly.
