Since I have made a few posts in other places, figured I had better say hi here. I live out on the Oregon Coast and have been collecting for twenty years or so. I get to do a lot of treasure hunting trips just for fun, so I tend to find some really fun marbles in really back woods places in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and other places, including longer treasure trips to the midwest. For a short time (1 year)I opened a comic and toy store here on the coast and sold some marbles out of it, but just sold the store, so now back to being able to travel freely, so it should be some fun finds coming soon, I hope.

I was sent here by one of your fine members when I mislabeled something on eBay. I haven't sold a marble there since. <g> I go by Pokerhat on eBay. And for a half year or so I have just been lurking here, learning everything I can. This site is fantastic! Thanks for keeping it up.

Cheers
Dean

Hello Dean..its Catherine..spent some time with you recently at your shop in Lincoln City! Nice to see you here...hows the weather at the coast?>
Have you found out what the mib with the hole drilled through it is yet?
Thanks for the great marbles, and the joys of the vending machine!
Take care

Hi back, Catherine. Great contacting you here and meeting you in person.

I just sold the store and will be taking the big case out, but my wonderful store manager is the one buying it from me and she wants me to keep marbles in the store, so I will be supplying her with some good stuff, including keeping the machine full. <g>

Hope the drive home was a safe one.

Cheers
Dean

Hello. I'm new here and thought I'd better get around to the introductions page. I'm William from Clarksburg, WV. I live about a 10 minute walk from the old Akro site and have lived here my whole life, save for my college years. I've always had marbles but didn't start getting into collecting until a few years ago . . . 2002 or so. I missed the heydey of digging (and am not disappointed about it--those could be rough times). I have a lot of interesting dug marbles that I ought to post sometime, though there are a couple which just cannot be photographed. I have mostly Akros, though I do have a few contemporaries, a couple MFC bricks, and a handful of this or that, some I can't identify. There's some other odd stuff some of us can't quite identify--some of it dug there at the plant even.

I think Clarksburg has something of a bad stigma--perhaps rightfully so. There's a lot of drama and competition and greed and arrogance. Know-it-alls. When the "dig" happened last fall I stayed as far away from it as I could. I am in it for the history and the beauty of these Akro marbles. Seems like most people here are in it for the $$money$$, and that, again perhaps rightfully, has given Clarksburg a bad rap.

I probably know a few of you already through Ebay. I look forward to sharing and gaining knowledge here!

See you around the store, although the nifty marble case is now up in my office. <g>
