just pictures as I am thinking what to call this onion skin it is 2.450 in size , it is polished with damage still remaining and then a flat spot put on it .
I thought it was at first a polished one that showed another onion inside but I think it was made to be opened ???
At this time just a lot of pics but it is now on the top shelf . Mike

Questions:
Was the flat spot ground after the marble was polished?
With damage like that, is it a common practice for the maker to take that much glass off the surface? Or were the marbles just dumped? I'm curious about the history of this piece. Who did the polishing and grinding? And a dumb question: where some onionskins made to be used as paperweights? My parents had 3 similar, but with less spirals, that they had in a bowl on the coffee table. After an open house event, they were gone. My mother says they were marbles and not paper weights, that they purchased in auction.
Novice questions, but confusing for me: marbles or paper weights? _________________ Don't Tread On Me |
